I have noticed that some practicing Catholics are supporting a pro-choice candidate in the upcoming election. How can this position be reconciled with Catholic teaching that life begins at conception and that every human being has an inviolable right to life that the state cannot take away? If this teaching is true, then at least 4,000 innocent human beings are being killed every day by means of abortion and hormonal contraception in the United States.
The State?

" Beth.....this is a very controversial subject. This is such a personal and difficult decision that some women feel they have to make. It is not something anyone wants to do I hope you know. It isn't as black and white as you seem to make it sound. There are so many "life rules" in many different religions and I hope that we don't live our lives by some of them. It also says in the Bible Beth, that we should stone to death homosexuals in town square....so should we do that too? I think you should but forth your efforts toward taking care of the many thousands of unwanted children that we have in our foster care system and need to be taken care of NOW!!! "

" Mind your own business, Beth. "
Hypocrisy in action. I like the term "cafeteria Catholic" to describe this ability to pick and choose which supposedly infallible truths to respect.
