Topic: Hellish Dreams (My Experience)

Dear Judith,

After reading your column about your hellish childhood nightmare, I was reminded of one I had a year ago or so.
I was 40 and after years of hearing about the Left Behind series, I thought I would read the first book. I had planned to read the whole series. Just for the hell of it ;)
I checked out “Left Behind” from the library, climbed into bed that night and began reading.
Being a religion free person, I was instantly horrified by the opening paragraphs.
After a few pages into the first chapter I couldn’t continue and went to sleep.
More like tried to sleep…..
I don’t remember the details of the nightmare but I know for a fact it was triggered by what I had read in the book.
I did not sleep well. I tossed and turned all night. Haunted is the only word I can come up with to describe the after-effects of the dream(s). It was upsetting.
I returned the book to the Library the next day.
I don’t know why, but it still bothers me today. Why was I so affected by the story if it’s not true?
After some reflection, I think it’s the people who believe this stuff and accept it as justice is what scares the hell out of me.

A fan since 99,

Lori Gilliland

The left behind series is quite ridiculous. I had read some of the reviews and decided I was better of without it. Unfortunately you had to learn it the hard way...tee hee ;)
