Eight of nine members lose reelection bid

Voters came down hard Tuesday on school board members who backed a statement on intelligent design being read in biology class, ousting eight Republicans and replacing them with Democrats who want the concept stripped from the science curriculum.
Great news!
This makes my day. This is what happened in Darby. The smart Darby parents voted out the school board members that tried to add Intelligent Design to thier science classes. Another victory. Its too bad the public school system is losing money to these law suits, but the ID supporters are forcing their hand. The school district is almost always automatically sued. I don't like it either, but it is the only defense we have against these religious fundamentalists. If it was not for the rule of law, this country would be a theocracy. Its all sad and frustrating. This issue is tearing communities apart and hopefully it appears there is a backlash against the ID proponents. Same thing happened in Hamilton, Montana. Luckily there was no law suit. The public was able to vote out those ID folks before they had a chance to mess things up.
People pay attention to whats going on in your school district. Don't let this happen to you.

Large Families & Welfare
Over 300,000 polygamous in Utah and it's a 3rd degree felony?
It appears the law looks the other way, unless minors are involved. Even then prosecution is rare.
The best case against polygamy is welfare.
A poor man with many wives and many children is a burden on our civil society.
Since his wives are not legally married, they can claim they are single mom's raising kids on their own. They therefore qualify for welfare and most of them get it. Meanwhile dad moves from one Section 10 household to the next eating meals bought with food stamps.
Even more frustrating, most of them hate the secular government, but do not mind "bleeding the monster" as some fundamentalists call it when they try and justify living off tax dollars.
HOW CONVENIENT
This brings up the other phenomena of what I call breeders. There is a couple getting all kinds of attention lately because they have 14 kids and one on the way. In an article it says they will have more if God gives them more. Wow, and I thought babies were dropped off by the Stork! I guess if Dad can support such a large family, go for it. But today, I think its almost selfish to have so many kids. Back when my dad grew up, he was the 2nd youngest of 8, there was no birth control. Farmers grew not only crops but their own home grown workers. They needed large families to work the fields and tend to the animals. And back then, "the good ole days" many babies did not see their first birthday. Many mothers died in childbirth. So, having 14 -15 kids today is just plain silly. As usual, these large modern families are normally religous fundamentalists. Birth control is a sin. God said to multiply, so damn it we better get busy! One benefit for mom is she has given birth to her future babysitters. You can say, in a sense the big sisters are the 2nd, 3rd wife - housework and child care duties will be their childhoods. Great on the job training. I wonder if the children appreciate their parents views on family.
I am the oldest of four, and I think four is a good number, but two is what I have. With four, I have brothers and a sister. My son does not have a brother, my daughter does not have a sister. Is that bad? OK? I'm glad I have a sister, but growing up with her was not necessarily a good time. As adults we get along better than most siblings I know, but still, there is always that sibling angst from days past. At least with only two kids, I don't have a favorite son or daughter. I tell them they are my favorite girl and boy in the whole wide world. I find it hard to be "fair" in dealing with two, how can one possibly do that with 14! I have two aunts that had 8 or more children. All I can say, things did not necessarily turn out well for most of my cousins. Poverty usually pre-determines ones future. They lived in poverty and most still do. Therefore on welfare.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- A judge will ask the state Supreme Court on Wednesday to let him stay on the bench after a commission that oversees judges ordered him dismissed because he has three wives.
Those pursuing the case against Judge Walter Steed say his plural marriage creates a conflict: After taking an oath to uphold the law, he shouldn't be breaking it.
"You can't have it both ways," said Colin Winchester, the executive director of the state's Judicial Conduct Commission.
The commission issued an order seeking Steed's removal from the bench in February, after a 14-month investigation determined Steed was a polygamous and as such had violated Utah's bigamy law.
Bigamy is a third-degree felony in Utah punishable by up to five years in prison, but Steed's attorney, Rod Parker, said Utah's attorney general and the Washington County prosecutor have declined to prosecute his client.

Self-determination
Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers said in a speech more than a decade ago that "self-determination" should guide decisions about abortion and school prayer and that in cases where scientific facts are disputed and religious beliefs vary, "government should not act."

Marsolek, one of the founding members of the Drum Brothers, has made a name in Helena as a practicing hypnotherapist and the director of Inner Workings Resources — a place where he teaches remote viewing, intuition and trance exploration.“Everything we do leaves an imprint, or a field of information, or an energy that can be accessed,” Marsolek said. “All the physical matter has an energy and a physical consciousness at its core. We’re not separate from what we perceive.”
